The JLP-led Government of Jamaica is reforming the constitution, to appoint a Jamaican as Head of State, replacing the British Monarch, among other amendments. However, the Opposition PNP, while supportive of a Jamaican Head of State, insists on replacing the UK-based Privy Council with the CCJ, as the country’s highest court, as a condition for supporting any constitutional change. This is a stance not shared by the JLP, which favours retaining the Privy Council.
